LoDubs/Shift Present 6BLOCC | DJUNYA | JON AD

Thursday, June 21st, LoDubs Records, the Portland based label, with history stretching back to the dawn of Dubstep, and their honorable counterpart, Shift Recordings of Seattle, unite for one night to bring you several luminaries from their respective rosters, featuring.......

6BLOCC - LoDubs, Terminal Dusk, Digital 6 - Los Angeles

The undisputed king of west coast bass. Going back to his Hip Hop heyday of the late 80's, and all the way forward to his soundsystem destroying dubs circa:now, the man known as 6Blocc (and sometimes R.A.W.) has a passion for the next sound, whilst keeping all those years of party rockin skills embedded in each productions' genome. Case in point, His recent remix of "More Bounce To The Ounce", a G Funk Classic, made new again, which was released last month as a LoDubs/Mad Decent split 12" with Diplo on the flip.

Expect a set filled with devastating dubs, all seemlessly and real style layered together with two decks and a mixer, because that's all this soundman needs to slay the dance....

DJUNYA - LoDubs, NarcoHZ, SF

Joseph .Jr, also known as, Djunya is an eclectic producer focusing on all types of BASS Music. DJUNYA passionately started composing his music at a very young age. He continued to pursue his love for all types of music by studying African percussion and keyboards. Over the years Joseph has played with various live bands and worked on dub/beat projects across the western United States. DJUNYA then began to DJ Drum and Bass heavily in 1999. He was quickly noticed for his ability to program and cut mixes. His producing skills have been captivating listeners for over a decade, and he has continued to move dance floors DJ’ing his Dubbed-out blend of BASS HEAVY BEATS.

DJUNYA has been noticed internationally for DJ’ing sets on various internet & FM radio stations. He has also performed at various Music & Film Festivals including Sundance, Slamdance, Musefest, Versus, Ultra Music Festival, Viram Vs FSOB, Lunadance,Sonic Bloom, Burning Man,Bobolink, Get Freaky, Symbiosis Gathering, Dub_O_Cracy, Lovefest, H. E. N. C. H., Superdubpressure, FreakCamp, SMOG Sessions, Pure Filth, Heavyweight, Sub. Mission, Bassic, Bass Goes Boom, Fire, Shift, and X-Dance.

DJUNYA’s live mixes and sound productions cover the spectrums of deep moody basslines to etheric atmospheres. His influences range from Reggae, Hip-Hop, Downtempo, Drum & Bass, and 2-step. DJUNYA’s sound palete is ever expanding as he continues to work with artists, producers, and traditional musicians. His music has been featured on short films, websites, animations, and documentaries.. Currently working on collabs, remix’s and debut LP

JON AD - LoDubs, losonfono, Anthem Records - Portland

Jon AD is founder of the labels losonofono (Chicago house/Skweee) and LoDubs, America’s Premier Dubstep label, which was founded in the winter of 2006.

Elements of Jon AD’s DJ sets may include each, or all of the above. He is a founding member of the longest running Dubstep night in Portland, Oregon, Various, in addition to the Dancehall/Dubstep night Version, and has maintained residencies in San Francisco and Milwaukee/Chicago when residing in those cities

LoDubs is not your ordinary dance music imprint, nor is Jon A.D. a young upstart. The label is run from inside Anthem Records, a record store (and label of the same name) that Jon owns, and which specializes in limited-edition metal, noise, and drone releases. This may seem contradictory, but Jon sees a strong connection between metal, noise, and dubstep. “Dubstep is so much about drum structures. And when you increase the air and rhythm in tracks, that allows drone and other frequencies to come out. Scorn’s stuff is very metal, and Burial and Boxcutter have some of those elements as well.”

The history of Jon AD reads a bit like a peoples history of innovative electronic music in the the United States. Born in Eugene, Oregon, and from a young age attracted to all aspects of sound, it was in his teens that he first discovered Electronic music, and realized that it had as visceral of elements as Punk Rock when combined with heavy amplification.

LoDubs has emerged as among the strongest in a short list of labels representing bass driven music in the US, and arguably the only one largely representing artists from North and South America, with over 20 releases from artists as far north and Toronto and as far south as Venezuela, in addition to those from the UK, Germany, Japan, etc.

The future will see Jon AD and LoDubs continuing to blur the lines between what is one genre or the other, be it through the releases, The multi genre monthly founded by Jon AD, Monkeytek, and Ryan Organ in 2006 known as Various, and/or through his DJ sets.

The SCP Foundation. Secure, contain, protect.

Sun, 05/20/2012 - 07:43
http://scp-wiki.wikidot.com/

About The SCP Foundation

Welcome

SCP artifacts pose a significant threat to global security. Various agencies from around the world operate to maintain human independence from extra-terrestrial, extra-dimensional, and extra-universal threat. In the past humankind has been at the whim of these bizarre artifacts and similar phenomena, but we have now reached a point in history where we can begin to control and contain these defiances of natural law.

You are now working for the SCP Foundation. You have no need to understand how or why we operate. What you do need to understand is how vital your mission is.

Our Goals

Observe preternatural phenomena and develop new theories of science based on their observable behavior.
Contain potentially dangerous phenomena
Develop safety procedures for dealing with all future phenomena
Observe, detain, and destroy any one or any thing preventing us from accomplishing the above-stated goals.

SCP Reports

One of the most essential functions of the Foundation is to compile and consolidate information about artifacts in our possession, or observed outside of our scope of influence.

Special Containment Procedures are required for each and every observed phenomenon. It is amongst your top priorities to assist the higher-level officers in the research required for the composition of these reports. These reports are the foundation of the Foundation.

Also, it is imperative that these documents never leak to the public. If they are verified and traced back to the source by a party not privy to this information, it could spell disaster for the Foundation and all SCP artifacts currently under our control.

A Word from 'The Administrator'

Mankind in its present state has been around for a quarter of a million years, yet only the last 4,000 have been of any significance. So, what did we do for nearly 250,000 years? We huddled in caves and around small fires, fearful of the things that we didn't understand. It was more than explaining why the sun came up, it was the mystery of enormous birds with heads of men, and rocks that came to life. So we called them 'gods' and 'demons,' and begged them to spare us and prayed for salvation.

In time, their numbers dwindled and our numbers rose. The world began to make more sense when there were less things to fear. Yet, the unexplained can never truly go away, as if the universe demands the absurd and impossible.

Mankind must not go back to hiding in fear. No one else will protect us, we must stand up for ourselves.

While the rest of mankind dwell in the light, we must stand in the darkness to combat it, contain it, and shield it from the eyes of the public, so that others may live in a sane, normal world.

We secure. We contain. We protect.

The Foundation

Clandestine and worldwide, The SCP Foundation operates beyond jurisdiction, empowered and entrusted by every major world government with the task of containing 'items which jeopardize normalcy.'

Many of these 'items' pose both a physical danger to people and a psychological mistrust in worldly affairs, their personal beliefs, and an interruption to daily life.

exempli gratia - the average individual might be quite troubled by the existence of SCP-126, believing there could be many like her present at any time.
exempli gratia - daunted by the fact that mankind is threatened by SCP-008 or SCP-058
exempli gratia - the likelihood that many people would submit to or even worship subjects such as SCP-076 or SCP-882

Special Containment Procedures

Commonly known as 'SCPs,' these articles are overview reports of individual 'Items' in containment by SCP personnel and facilities. They quickly summarize threats and describe Items with only necessary details (as time might be short on hand in the event of a containment breach or other event).

Items can be an object, place, person, animal or even an occurance. They are given an Item# as SCP-XXX and categorized. SCPs are grouped as being 'Safe,' 'Euclid,' or 'Keter' which are classifications that explain expected threat levels.

Anyone may draw up an SCP protocol on any Item and add it to 'The List,' but every author is subject to review by his or her peers, and must adhere to the high standards and clinical approach mandated by his fellows.

30 kids, 1 man...forced vasectomies?

Sun, 05/20/2012 - 00:25
I have a "Can't feed em', don't breed em'" mentality (for pets and people)...This story popped up. Like Octomom (who I found kind of fascinating in a trainwreck kind of way), I am 100% against people having kids if they can't pay for them themselves. Octomom collects disability payments for three of her kids, and a whole host of gub'ment aid. She was getting death threats for her decision to have 14 kids and collect gub'ment assistance.

I get torn between wanting to help the kids who didn't ask to be put in a such a shitty situation vs. wanting to punish the parents. Octomom went nuts and bought a million dollar home. She clearly has a few screws loose. I would too if I had 14 kids.

Anyways, this guy pops up in the news. He has 30 kids ranging from newborns to 14 y.o. He works a minimum wage job (nothing wrong with that but...)

"A 33-year-old Knoxville, Tenn. man with 30 children appeared in court this week to ask the state for child-support help, Memphis news station WREG reported Wednesday.

Desmond Hatchett has fathered 30 children -- which is believed to be the record in Knox county, according to the Los Angeles Times -- with 11 different women. His youngest children are toddlers and his oldest is 14.

Hatchett reportedly asked the court to give him a break on his payments, claiming that he's struggling to make ends meet with his minimum-wage job. Currently, the state requires him to divide 50 percent of his earnings among the 11 women, some of whom receive as little as $1.49 a month, WREG reports."

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/0...n_1528850.html

Can we agree this guy needs a forced vasectomy? Would you be comfortable for allowing that to be ordered? Its kind of a slippery slope. Government saying you have too many kids, so you need to be "fixed." Then again, how many is too many kids?

I struggle with this, but I think this guy is OUT OF CONTROL and impacting not only his 30 kids who are most likely condemned to a life of poverty but society with his rampant "breeding."

Trashed and Neumos Present: THE TWELVES (Kitsune' - Brazil)

THE TWELVES
(Kismet, Rio De Janeiro)

www.twitter.com/thetwelves

The breakthrough for The Twelves came in July of 2007 when they remixed the track "Boyz" from M.I.A's sophomore album. The reworked track with an added club feel resulted in one of the most talked about remixes of the year. Blog coverage surrounding the remix was ridiculous and eventually the track started to pop up in sets from high profile djs around the world, and even ended up on BBC Radio One's "In New Djs We Trust" series.

Their live set consists of keyboards, midi controllers and sequencers remixing and playing music on the fly.

If you saw them the last time they came to Trashed, you know this is not to be missed.

With DJs:

Victor Menegaux (C89.5fm)

James Ervin (Trashed/Housewreckin)

NAMED AS ONE OF MIX MAG'S GREATEST DJs OF ALL TIME

- || - || HATCHA || - || - Croydon, UK

Sin City/Newstate/Tempa/Big Apple

http://www.facebook.com/hatchadj
http://www.youtube.com/hatchatv

https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?f...type=1&theater

No one DJ or indeed producer can claim sole credit for dubstep. But when the history of the genre gets told, no DJ has ever had, or perhaps ever will again have so much influence over the course of the genre as Hatcha. It’s no overstatement to say the entire genre bares his stamp.

Hatcha’s roots seep deep back into late ‘90s UK garage, Croydon and pirate radio. Originally the buyer at the now defunct Big Apple record shop, Hatcha was one of the very first DJs to pick up on the new dark strains of 2step that were being made by local producers like El-B, Artwork and Horsepower at the turn of the millennium. As the producers came into the shop to sell white labels of these niche new sounds, a community arose. The shop began its own label, Big Apple Records and its first release was the dubstep classic “Red” by the shop’s resident producer Artwork. The next releases came from his two protégés, Benga and Skream.

As the garage sounds from south London began to take on their own unique, dark swung direction, it became clear that the nascent scene needed a home. In 2001 Forward>>, dubstep’s founding club, started with Hatcha a resident. It was here he began to up the ante. While other DJs came with a collection of white labels (tracks immanently due for a public release), he arrived with a box of upfront dubplates: unique one-off exclusive tracks. No DJ could test.

Throughout the decade Hatcha’s sets, first on south London pirates then Rinse FM and now Kiss 100, went from strength to strength. His headline slots at Forward>> forged the genre into the form we now know it in. This was in no small part because he had exclusive access to Benga and Skream’s music, before adding three new producers: Mala Digital Mystikz, Coki and Loefah to his arsenal. The destiny of an entire scene lay in his hands, every time he played.

In 2003 he even played a part in naming the genre. Amidst the scene’s key players: the Big Apple camp and Ammunition who ran Forward>> and Tempa, the term “dubstep” (from dubby 2step garage), began being circulated. It appeared in a press release and then on a US magazine cover. Hatcha was then asked to mix the scene’s first compilation that cemented the use of the name: Dubstep Allstars vol 1. He must have done something right: they asked him back to co-mix volume 4.

Since those times Hatcha has gone on to hold down his flagship Kiss 100 show alongside long time MC, Crazy D, DJ across the planet, co-produce with a variety of the scene’s heavyweights and mix compilations such as Ten Tons Heavy for Planet Mu & the UK charting 100% Pure Dubstep. Catch DJ Hatcha under a weighty system near you sometime soon.

Bass Science started in the summer of 2007 as 2-man Live P.A., making Dub-hop / Glitch step bass music. Bass Science fuses dubstep, glitch hop, IDM and dub into a fresh new sound that is simultaneously filthy and extremely clean. In less than a year since their inception, they have created a prolific body of work and electrified dance floors across the globe: call it glitchstep, call it dubhop, call it what you will, Bass Science’s hybrid sounds are generating a cabinet-rattling buzz. In the past 2 years they’ve dazzled crowds at seminal festivals and clubs from UK’s Glade to LA’s Low End Theory, with globetrotting gigs spanning Asia, Europe and the US and sharing stages with STS9, Flying Lotus, Nosaj Thing, Eliot Lipp, and more. Bass Science’s tracks, meanwhile, have received enthusiastic support from influential DJs like the BBC’s Mary Anne Hobbs and Annie Nightingale, Resonance FM’s Nick Luscombe, with regular rotation on Dubstep.FM. 2011 is a changing of an era for Bass Science. Don’t turn your back on us, because Bass Science will continue to blow up, and not just the sound systems.

Free National Parks Pass for military folks...

Sat, 05/19/2012 - 04:08
I think a few of us on here qualify:

If you are Active Duty military, you can to to any National Park or Forest lands where you normally need to buy an access pass and be given a FREE, ONE YEAR PASS to ALL of the NPs. Having worked for both NPS and the Forest Service, I can say we are all lucky to live here in the U.S. There are millions and millions of acres open to us to explore and play in.

Details:

Free
-Available to active duty military personnel and dependents with proper identification (CAC Card or DD Form 1173)
-Obtained in person at Federal recreation sites that charge entrance or standard amenity fees.
-Covers entrance to Fish and Wildlife Service and National Park Service sites that charge Entrance Fees, and Standard Amenity Fees at Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management and Bureau of Reclamation sites.
-Admits the pass owners and any accompanying passengers in a private non-commercial vehicle at per vehicle fee areas, or the pass owner and up to additional 3 adults at sites that charge per person.
-Non-transferable

Facebook and Advertising...not worth it?

Sat, 05/19/2012 - 02:21
So FB went public with their IPO today and its looking like its a less successful then they thought. According to the stock trading, the estimate is that FB is worth more then McDonalds. FB sells advertising space on their site, and with the use of all the information ya'll provide that site they can target the ads pretty well.

Got me to thinking about ads and advertising. If you are watching TV and ads come on (say on hulu.com) I just turn the volume off on the page and go somewhere else for 30 seconds. I was thinking about online ads in my gmail and I can't recall ever clicking on an ad ever. I don't have a facebook account, but I've seen the ads on the sides of the pages and I can't imagine I'd ever be motivated to click them either.

NPR was talking about this subject this morning and something like 60-70% of people ignore all the ads.

So I was wondering if you ever click on the ads on your FB or gmail or online sites? Or do you ignore them all?

My prediction for FB stock is that its highly overvalued (even with their supposed one billion "customers") and that people are going to lose money on that stock. Mark Zuckerberg is like Honey Badger though (He don't give a shit!)

Liverpool born James Silk, is the newest addition to the Artefact records artist roster. Relatively new producer on the House scene, James is far from inexperienced when it comes to music. Already released tracks for Open Bar Music, She/It Records, Cimelde Records and few other labels, debuts on Artefact with the three tracker called Lost Circus EP that is set straight for to the dance floor. Starting with Friend Of Mine where James's clever usage of the vocal snippet from Incognito's Still Friend of Mine softly filtering thru the break down, and the mix with a deep bass line and modern tech sounds, shows his ability to connect the old with the modern in a great balance. Hazy Dayz carries a lighter bounce with the funky influenced bass line, along with a creamy funky soulful vocal riding on a chunky rolling grooves, and a sweet disco riff filtering thru the grooves, a minimalistic approach with a great vibe. Rounding off this flawless package, James takes us on a Trail To Buda, with the deep and crisp bass line and old school male vocal sublimed with an old school melody and an eastern male vocal that gives the atmospheric feel to the whole groove and right in the middle a rolling piano takes the whole track to a different level, whilst the vibe stays intact and delivers a joyfully emotional ride. Fusing old school sounds with current dancefloor sensibilities James Silk is a new name that we are proud to have onboard at Artefact Records and a name that we are sure you will be hearing a lot more in the near future.
Early support by Hermanez, Al Bradley, DJ Nutritious, Bogdan Taran, Colin Sales, Lee Jarvies, Alfred Azzetto, Hector Moralez, James Harrigan, Nachtvogels.....

This release contains two new tracks and one track that was futured on Artefact's Summer Sampler. "Juicy" kicks things off with the right amount of deep sounds, strong bassline and slow drifting vibes with perfectly placed vocal snippets. Next up we have "Playtime", and it continues where Juicy left with a bit more stronger vibe and deeper sounds with a driving bassline along sexy female vocal samples. Last but not least is "Gasp Out" the track that has been futured on the Artefact's Summer Sampler, it keeps things rolling with it's stompy feel, bouncy bassline mixed with a female vocal and carefully chosen synth sounds that give the track a more techier feel.

All in all a three tracker that is ready for those late night sessions at the dance floor.

Artist: Freaky Funk
Title: No One EP
Featuring: No One, Like You, Never and Awake
Label: Artefact Records
Release date:27th of December worldwide
cat no: ARTE015

Nikola Jovicevic aka Freaky Funk is an essential part of Montenegro electronic scene, with his name attached to almost every big event in country. His talent and love for music helped make him a proud member of two very important clubbing organizations in region: AfterBeach Parties Montenegro and RetroActive DJ team with his friend DJ Proximus.
Freaky Funk is known for DJ'ing quality tech- and funky house all over the Montenegro seaside, as well as winning the Exit Festival DJ Competition which granted him a spot on the Exit Dance Arena Stage, playing one of the biggest festivals in Europe alongside some of its biggest DJs.
His first EP for Macedonia's Artefact label was the Just Visiting EP which was well received in international house music circles. Now Freaky Funk follows that release with a new collection of tracks within the No One EP. These four original tracks showcase Freak Funk's trademark of deep, funky sounds alongside bouncy basslines and superbly blended vocal bits.
High production skills and a strong musical flare are on evidence here, offering top cuts aimed directly for the dancefloor but still suitable for casual, home listening. Touches of disco and classic underground flavors seal the deal, making for an EP that should fit like a glove in most house music DJ's playlists.

With the support of great number of djs and producers around the globe, this ep is set to be Freaky Funk's the most successful release to date.

Claude VonStroke LIVE at See Sound Lounge

Fri, 05/18/2012 - 04:28
Claude VonStroke does not scowl and look mean while he DJs. He does not pretend to know everything and he will be nice to you and your friends. He is grateful to be doing music for a living and he knows that the reason people go to parties is to shake their ass and have fun. If you want to act cool and not have any fun then please do not book him.

VonStroke created dirtybird records in 2005 and has been running everything from A&R to daily operations ever since. The name "Claude VonStroke" was a joke that caught on after he released a series of quirky tracks under the moniker in order to help kick start the dirtybird label. His very first record, “Deep Throat,” used a strange vocal sound effect as percussion to make a sleeper hit selling tens of thousands of copies. The follow-up track, "Who's Afraid of Detroit?" was the catalyst that changed his career from bedroom producer to touring DJ. He has been blessed with similar success stories ever since.

VonStroke has released two artist albums as well as a Fabric mix and countless remixes for a wide range of commercial and underground artists from Indy rock group “The Rapture” to Detroit techno legend Kevin Saunderson. In an effort to give something back to the community VonStroke unveiled a new sub-label “mothership” in 2007. A large percentage of the label’s proceeds go to a music school for children in Detroit, Michigan.

Danny Howells LIVE at See Sound Lounge

Fri, 05/18/2012 - 04:25
Danny Howell's music is often described as progressive house, though he prefers to associate more with tech house and is sometimes described simply as "deepsexyfuturistictechfunkouse". At performances, he is well known to interact personally with the audience.[1] Howells has mixed several albums for Global Underground in addition to his Nocturnal Frequencies series. Howells is also a member of the duo Science Department with Dick Trevor, which has produced the singles "Breathe" and "Persuasion"/"Repercussion" as well as remixes for artists such as BT. From 2008 he has run his own record label, Dig Deeper - named after his long running club night.
